A Trip to Charlotte

This is a long post with a lot of pictures. I hope you will enjoy!

Kyle and I went this past week to Charlotte to one sign Colsen up for Preschool and two, to check on the progress of our house and to start making some design selections. We have been looking forward to this trip for quite some time, especially since it was Valentine's weekend. We both got to Charlotte on Wednesday. We got our bags and the car and we were off. The very first thing we wanted to see, even though we were starving, was the progress on our street and house. We had gotten a picture of the curbs a couple of weeks ago, but we wanted to see if there was any new progress. We were a little disappointed because nothing new seemed to have changed. We weren't completely surprised because we knew that Charlotte had had some snow and weather can really slow up a home building project.

After seeing the house we went to get a quick bite and then we were off to go tour a preschool for Colsen. The school was amazing! They have all kinds of great programs: a science room for exploring, an indoor gym, a computer and manipulative area, and wonderful classrooms with centers. Kyle and I both thought Colsen is going to love it. The best part was we found out that there was a spot for Colsen. See the thing is, ever since we thought about moving preschool has been on my mind. I did some research and it came down to two schools. This one that Colsen is going to and another one which is just down the street. Both from what I read, were hard to get into. Both are at churches, so without being a member it was going to be tough. I knew I had to give this to the Lord. He has handled everything else in such an amazing way. Kyle and I both know that moving to Charlotte is God's plan for our family. So, I knew that HE was going to work things out. The other school that we were looking at I had gotten to see the last time we were in Charlotte. Great school!! Loved the classrooms and the school decor. The only problem was the registration process. If you're not a member, which we are not, then you have to wait in line. Except the line starts to form the day before the registration day. And that means you get to spend the night in the gym. What??? You heard me right. Kyle and I would have to spend the night in the gym. To give the church some credit, they will feed you dinner and breakfast. At first Kyle and I thought this might not be so bad. It would give us a chance to meet some people. On the other hand, a night in a gym did not sound appealing, especially since we had just flown in on Wednesday and the registration day was on Thursday. Colsen's school registration process was on line. One morning along with Colsen, I got on my computer and I basically stood in line on my computer. I gave them some basic information and I hit submit and my application was given a number. That same day, I Fedexed my application. I scheduled a tour for Wednesday to see whether Kyle and I needed to spend the night in a gym. From what you've read the answer was NO! The Lord had taken care of everything!! HE IS SO GOOD!! Colsen has a great school to go to.

On Friday we went to the design center to begin making our design selections. I was really nervous about this. I don't feel very confident in interior design. I was afraid I wasn't going able to make designs, I would just be very overwhelmed. That was not the case, our designer, Kelly was so very helpful and I really did know what I wanted and what I liked. I also think it helped that Kelly and I have similar taste. Kyle was great and VERY supportive! It was a great day!! Below you'll find some of the selections we made. We were so productive that all we have left to choose is lighting, tile and carpet. I can't wait to go back!!

If you are wondering what Kyle and I did for Valentine's day... because we had some extra time because we didn't have to spend the night in a gym. We went to a marriage conference based on the book Love & Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. The whole idea is that Women need love and Men need respect. The conference has some really great information. I think all the info. at the conference is in the book. I highly recommend it. A big thanks to my friend Jann, who told me all about it.

The conference was Friday night and Saturday morning. So later that evening Kyle and I went to a local restaurant and had dinner. It was pretty good. We didn't really like what was on the dessert menu, so we decided to go to one of our favorite desert places, Coldstone. I had my favorite, Birthday Cake Remix. It has cake batter ice cream with bits of chocolate brownie and chocolate fudge and sprinkles. It is YUMMY!! Kyle had his favorite, Banana Split Decision. We were both very happy!! We then went back to the hotel and went to sleep. We were exhausted!!

On Sunday, we headed up to North Charlotte and look around. We had never really been that far North. We wanted to take a look at Lake Norman. Many people have houses up there on the lake. It was pretty, but Kyle and I agreed that we picked the best spot. We can't wait to move!!!!

On Monday, we had a relaxing morning. We had an early lunch and then it was off to go over our house plans with our builder, Jordan. Kyle and I had a couple of days to look over the plans so we were able to make some notes. The meeting went really well, and hopefully we will have the plans back by the end of this week or early next week. Either way we are so excited. I will scan and post the final plans so you will be able to see the floor plan. After the meeting was over, we headed for the airport. I was headed back to Houston and Kyle was headed for Detroit. We had an amazing time together!! We are having so much fun working together on this project!! I should also tell you that the house is still projected to be finished in August. Everyone that we talked to said that our builder, Jordan is very quick but very into details. That was just what Kyle and I wanted to hear!

If you're wondering where Colsen was. He was at home with Grami and Grandaddy. They came in to take care of Colsen. I know Colsen had a great time going to the park and playing outside with Grandaddy!! I guarantee that Colsen had a much better time at home!! THANKS GRAMI AND GRANDADDY!!!!

Here are the pictures. I warn you there are a lot of them.
