I got to Detroit late Thursday evening so we had a yummy dinner at the hotel and then we just hung out in the hotel room. On Friday, we drove out to Flint, MI Buick City to see a engine manufacturing plant that is being demolished. It is so sad for this community, many generations have worked at this plant and as you can imagine they are very sad it is coming down. Kyle also had a TV interview with a local station. He did such a great job!! After we finished in Flint we drove back to Detroit and headed to Kyle's office so he could sign some documents. We had fun being silly while taking pictures in his office! I also got to take a picture with some of the GM cars in the Ren Cen. After having some lunch we headed out to Pontiac Assembly. This is a plant that used to assemble GM trucks, but is now no longer functioning. Many of the machinery is being auctioned off and the building is up for sale. Hopefully someone will buy it and create jobs for the community. It was really sad to see this plant! The whole time I was there I was imagining these trucks coming down the line as each person had there part in the assembly. Now it is just a cold, dark and quiet place. After leaving Pontiac Assembly we headed to Slow's Barbecue for an early dinner. This is one of Kyle's favorite places in Detroit!! I was very excited to check it out. After dinner we headed back to the hotel room. We both were so tired that we got into our pj's and relaxed and watched a little TV. It was a great day and I have a whole new respect for Kyle and what he does! He has a VERY tough job!!
My VERY handsome man sitting behind his desk!!
Being silly while putting my feet up!
Had to get a picture with a red Corvette!!
The robots at Pontiac Assembly.
The assembly line that the trucks would come down.
My sweet husband!!
More assembly pictures. So empty...so sad!
Me holding on to a wire that if pulled would stop the line to fix a problem.
Slow's Barbecue!! Kyle's favorite!!
On Saturday, we took it really easy!! We headed out for a yummy breakfast and then went to a toy store to make sure we had a very special surprise for a little guy who was at home with Grami missing Mommy and Daddy alot! After the toy store we drove around Detroit looking at the sights. We decided that we were both tired that we headed back to the hotel and napped and watched the Auburn-LSU football game. After a very relaxing afternoon we headed to the movies to see Hereafter with Matt Damon. Do not go see that movie. It was SO boring and very slow!! We finished the night with grabbing Pizza at a local place right by the hotel.
This was the only picture we took on Saturday. Kyle has a treadmill in his room and I was being silly on it!
On Sunday we got up and headed to Ann Arbor, MI to see the Univ. of Michigan. The weather was great and the campus was beautiful!! All the trees were changing colors and it was such a fun time to be on the campus! After seeing all the students, Kyle and I both felt so old!! After visiting the Univ. he headed back to Detroit and went to another movie, The Social Network. Great movie about the founding of Facebook. After the movie we headed back to the hotel to pack and for Kyle to get ready for the up coming week.
Standing outside the "Big House" at the Univ. of Michigan.
A sweet girl on her bike stopped to take a picture of Kyle and I under this beautiful fall tree!!
As you can see such a beautiful day on campus!
Kyle and I had such a fun time together!! It was so relaxing and just what both of us needed!! I had such a hard time leaving, but I knew someone was at home and he couldn't wait to see me and we had a VERY big surprise for him!!
So excited to get a new Thomas book!! The big surprise was coming.
