A Visit to Detroit

A few weeks ago Colsen and I went to see Kyle in Detroit. It was the perfect time to go! Kyle had been traveling alot that week plus it would be fun for Colsen and I to see everything that Kyle had been talking about at GM. And we wanted to go before it really got cold. Well...the trip was great and the weather could not have been better! I have to warn you there are A LOT of pictures. I promise you I did cut some but there were so many good ones it was hard. So...here is our trip to Detroit.

Well...before we went Colsen went to check the mail(something he loves to do)and in the mailbox was a letter from Lolly and Gran. He was so excited and here he is holding it up! Thank you Gran and Lolly, Colsen LOVES the mail!!
Here is Colsen playing in his car. The reason why he's pointing is because to get him to look at the camera I have to ask him, "where's mommy?" And then the points.
Colsen on the airplane!
He loves to check everything out.
He did great on the flight. About 20 minutes into the flight he fell asleep on me. The flight attendants weren't too happy with me because Colsen wasn't wearing his seat belt. Him sleeping was better than him screaming. I know everyone around me was very happy about my decision.
We are at the entrance to the General Motors building. Here's Colsen checking out one of the cars. I wish I had gotten a picture of him with the Camaro. I wasn't quick enough, oh well.
After you walk through the glass enclosure with the cars, this is the sign that lets you know you're in the right place.
Kyle in his office and Colsen's taking a very important call!

Here's a picture of downtown Detroit taken from out one of the windows in one of the conference rooms. To the left, you can see the Comerica baseball park where the Detroit Tigers play. And to the right you see Ford field where the Detroit Lions play.
The Detroit downtown skyline.
This picture is taken from one of the GM conference rooms. You are looking at the Detroit river and across the river is Windsor, Canada. I never knew how close the Canadian border was to Detroit.
This picture is taken in one of the elevators in one of the towers. The GM building has five towers in it. In one of the towers there is a Marriott hotel. The funny thing is this sign is actually over the hotel.
Colsen playing down by the Detroit River. Can you guess where's he headed?
That's right...straight for the water! Can you blame him...but Daddy's not far behind.
Having fun checking out the water!
Family Pic.
This is the General Motors building taken from the back by the river.

Gotta have a logo picture.
Colsen being silly!
After visiting the GM we headed out to Southfield, a suburb of Detroit. As you can see from the sign, this is where the headquarters of Kyle's firm, Alix Partners, is located. There are many other offices, in fact, Kyle now works out of the New York office before we moved he worked out of the Dallas office. Anyway...it was neat to see where it all started. We weren't able to go inside, but I was able to get some pictures outside.

After Alix Partners, we headed to Pontiac, Michigan to the Pontiac Assembly plant. This plant made Silverado trucks. I say made because at the end of this month this plant is closing. Kyle is in charge of getting this plant sold along with others. I can't even begin to tell you how BIG this plant is. I was standing way back and I couldn't take a picture of the whole thing. I guess the only way to capture the whole thing is in the air.
A closer view.
I was trying to capture the whole thing, but no luck. This plant is HUGE!!
Here is a picture of the Silverado trucks after they have come off the assembly line. On the right are the older trucks and to the left, are the newer trucks, the white ones. I have learned from Kyle that the last cars or trucks made in the plant before it closes are painted white. This cleans out the paint lines. I hope I have that right.
After our Pontiac visit, we headed to Rodchester, Michigan to have lunch with some friends that we met while Kyle worked with at Handleman last year. We were so sad because we didn't end up getting to see them because one of their kids got sick. We certainly understand that! But we went ahead and ate and had a fun time playing around!

Colsen having fun in the rental car! He LOVES to get in cars and pretend he's driving.
Getting ready to change the tunes! He's so funny to watch! It really is amazing how much children watch what you do.
Our Sweet Boy
Colsen and Daddy having fun!! These pictures are too cute for words!!!

We had a wonderful time!! I was so neat to see everything that Kyle has been talking about! Thank you, Sweetie for being such a great tour guide!! Here is Colsen sacked out on the plane ride home. He is laying his head in my lap and the rest of his body is in the other seat. Luckily, we didn't have anyone next to us.
